Gombei Japanese Restaurant is located in Japan Town of San Jose, around the conner of 4th street and E. Jackson Street. It is a quite popular place for Japanese food. It is relatively small and plain, seems a bit old in style, not modern or flashy at all. Very modest in furniture and soundings.Good for small group of people only (2 to 4 people in the group). Crowded. The food is pretty good, and the Tofu hotpot is not bad at all. It is relatively inexpensive, but not cheap either. Not really suitable for a family dinner on vacation since it is less decent and less expensive. It is good for quick get together with friends. It is also not very good for business meetings since it is a bit of noisy and less elegant in environment. There are actually two restaurants: one in 193 E. Jackson Street, San Jose, CA 95112 (408) 279 4311, the other is at 1438 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025 (650) 329-1799. Not sure about the situation at Menlo Park. One more Restaurant owned by the same owner: Kubota Restaurant and Bar, located also in San Jose Japantown: 593 N. Fifth Street, San Jose, CA 95112, Tel: 408 279-8440.
